Full Review
Bondi Smile refers to their teeth whitening kit as “one of Australia’s favourite brands for home teeth whitening”.
If you do a search or check out reviews you can see this is a true statement that represents a quality product by an Australian company.
For best results, the 40 minute teeth whitening process can be repeated three times in the first week, and then once every 3–6 weeks thereafter to maintain results.
Bondi Smile
Let’s check out the Bondi Smile teeth whitening starter kit.
First Impressions
I found the kit really simple and easy to use.
I thought the packaging was really good, clean and crisp looking.
Bondi Smile – Good first impression
The instructions were great to follow which had enough detail but not so much it was overwhelming.
It is similar to some other whitening kits on the market, as far as the LED light and mouthpiece is concerned. However, it worked well and was effective.
The Bondi Smile LED light in action
If you repeat the whitening treatment for the full 40 minutes, it is quite long. I found the mouthpiece was bulky in my mouth and I had to make sure I picked the right time to use the kit.
If you are looking for something a little less time consuming, you can choose their whitening pen which is hugely convenient and even more compact.
In relation to the mouth tray, you can tell it’s well made and will last for future whitening treatments down the track.
The rubber tray was effortless to remove, clean and re-apply.
The mouth tray is well made
I thought the syringe was straightforward to use as I applied the whitening gel into the mouth tray.
They didn’t overflow and I never had a problem with leakage or irritation or discolouration around my gums.
One of the gel syringes used
I loved the LED light with the timer. I didn’t have to use my phone and time the whitening process. Just one less thing to think about.
My experience using the Bondi Smile whitening kit provided natural lighter shade to my teeth.
It wasn’t crazy white but I nice natural white improvement. I did have people compliment me when I smiled so that’s always nice.
Packaging and What’s Inside
The starter kit box and packaging are compact and user friendly making it the perfect size in my mind.
The back side of the Bondi Smile Kit
The kit opens easily and all the items inside are positioned well and are secured nicely.
In my Bondi Smile’s kit I found the following:
- 3 x 3ml Teeth Whitening Gel Syringes
- An LED Teeth Whitening Light
- 1 x Teeth Whitening Tray
- 1 x Instruction Manual
As you open the box, you have the left-hand side housing the whitening gel syringes, with the right-hand side storing the LED light and instructions for use.
Taking a look inside the kit
The box has a simple yet stylish appearance, with a beautiful aqua colour as a feature.
I like the simple design layout and thought the box was somewhat cute.
The packaging is perfect for those that need to conserve space and are not wanting a bulky kit.
A side look at the kit
A plastic cutout holds the 3 whitening gel syringes when stored inside the kit, offering protection against any knocks or bumps.
I found the internal plastic mould a little cheap compared to some other kits on the market, but it worked fine.
The plastic cutout worked well to store the syringes securely
The size of the syringes was great, they are sleek with Bondi Smile written on them in that vibrant aqua colour.
The LED light is pretty much standard when looking at most kits on the market. Having the LED light accelerates the whitening process, apparently.
A closer look at the whitening gel syringe
One function that I really liked was that Bondi Smile’s LED light has a 10-minute timing countdown function. That’s very handy and useful for the user.
A 10-minute timer on the LED light is a good feature
Whitening Gel Ingredients
Bondi Smile’s whitening gel has only 7 ingredients found inside. Wow, I like simple!
You’ll find the following ingredients in the gel:
- Carbamide Peroxide (18%)
- Glycerin
- Carbomer Xylitol
- Triethanolamine
- Peppermint Extract
- Aloe Barbadensis
- Leaf Juice.
The active whitening ingredient is the 18% carbamide peroxide.
The 18% carbamide peroxide is the same as 6% hydrogen peroxide which is the legal amount for retail whitening use.
Sleek syringes with 3mls of Whitening gel
Bondi Smile Whitening kit doesn’t offer a remineralization gel as part of their kits. In my opinion, I don’t see it being a disadvantage.
Instructions for Use
Inside the kit, you will find detailed instructions that are presented in a small and foldable pamphlet.
The pamphlet itself is a really neat, convenient and folded out into four sections.
Bondi Smile Instruction pamphlet found inside the kit
First up, Bondi Smile states “Thank you for purchasing your Bondi Smile Australia teeth whitening kit.”
They mention you “can do it from the comfort of your home instead of spending hundreds of dollars at the dentist”. We will see if this is true!
Reading the pamphlet
They use “a high quality US formulated gel that is safe, pain-free and will give you a bright Bondi Smile in no time”.
As you flip over to the back, it goes over the teeth whitening steps in four photo images which are broken down into 8 simple steps.
The steps outlined
Step 1
- Clean the mouth tray and dry it off before proceeding.
- Gently brush your teeth with toothpaste and rinse with water.
- Remove the plastic disc which is located between the batteries.
I like how Bondi Smile reminds people to brush your teeth first. This is very important.
Keeping up with your dental hygiene routine will help get rid of any mushy plaque, any debris that could be in around your teeth.
If you don’t, it could potentially decrease the effectiveness of the whitening kit to whiten your teeth, so keep brushing beforehand!
Keep up with brushing your teeth, helps overall
Removing the plastic bit between the batteries, it’s just purely to stop the batteries going flat while the kit was in storage at the facility at Bondi Smile. So you just want to make sure you remove that and it will work fine once that’s all been done.
Step 2
- Attaching the mouth tray to the LED light.
2 piece lighting system
When you get the kit, you will notice there is a rubber mouth guard/tray that is universal in fitting to your mouth.
The rubber mouth tray is easily removed and installed when it needs a clean.
Attaching the mouth tray to the LED light
I like the fact you don’t need to mould anything with this kit. Thumbs up for that!
Step 3
- Apply 0.5mls of the whitening gel into each side of the tray.
- Apply just enough to coat the frontal surface of your teeth to be widened, but not your gums.
So the trick here is less is best.
Apply the gel to the mouth tray as the instructions state
I’d suggest trialling a minimal amount for the first application and then build upon that as you subsequently go on with the process over the 5 days or however long you decide to use it for.
Step 4
- Place the mouth tray over your teeth.
- If you feel any gel that has made contact with your gums, remove the mouth guard and wipe off any gel that might be on your gums.
So really important not to overdo the gel here.
When you reduce the whitening gel you are limiting the possibility that you’ll get irritation or discolouration around your gums.
Step 5
- Press the start button to enter into a 10-minute countdown.
I like that it’s fast! Have really enjoyed this timer function on the LED light.
Activating the LED light
Step 6
- The light will turn off automatically at the end of the 10 minutes, alerting with the audible prompt tone.
- If everything feels fine, you can repeat this step up to four times.
That’s really great. It’ll give you the opportunity to repeat up to four times for maximum results.
But if you do have any sensitivity or you just want to take it slow and steady at the beginning, you can and opt for the number of times you would like to, up to four times.
Step 7
- Take off the mouth tray from the whitening light and wash it.
- Rinse your mouth with warm water and gently brush your teeth.
- We recommend using a desensitizing toothpaste.
Simple instructions relating to cleaning and post-whitening routine if needed.
Cleaning the mouth tray after use
I like the fact that instead of using a gel, you can use a toothpaste that is mild and has a desensitizing effect.
Here is a list of desensitizing kinds of toothpaste which could help you if you are worried about sensitivity issues:
Step 8
- Repeat this whitening procedure for five consecutive days.
It is true, keeping consistent and applying the whitening gel every day as instructed is the perfect way to reach a whiter and brighter smile.
Bondi Smile Tips for Usage
There are 4 tips that they recommend which will increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Checking out the tips for usage
Tip 1
“Teeth whitening system is most effective if treatments are done consecutively”
So five days, five days in a row. Don’t have any gaps or any missed days, and do it thoroughly and consistently as per their instructions.
Tip 2
“You may whiten your teeth up to seven consecutive days. Whitening treatment over two times per day is not recommended. Whitening your teeth once-twice a fortnight to maintain your results”.
Only keep it at once per day, and you can do it four times (40 minutes as a maximum).
3 times a week in the first week and then once every 3–6 weeks thereafter to maintain results.
You just don’t want to overdo it. Don’t go gung-ho on this. Just make sure it’s nice and consistent.
Tip 3
“Smoking, consuming red wine, coffee, tea, cola, curry or any other food, a beverage with dark colouring should be avoided during the whitening period in two weeks after your teeth whitening to maintain best results”.
Keep a check on what you’re eating and consuming while you’re using this whitening kit. Anything that’s got a dark or rich colouring will have an effect on the whitening process.
Tip 4
“You may experience a mild, soft tissue irritation and sensitivity during the whitening process. It is usually temporary and will go away in a short time. We recommend using a decent styling toothpaste. If extended or excessive sensitivity is experienced, please consult your dentist”.
Now that’s just a safety brief just to make sure if you do have problems with sensitivity, to stop.
Making a common-sense decision here, and you should be fine.

When you store this whitening kit keep it in a cool and dry place, avoid sunlight and please use this product in 12 months of receiving it.
5 Day Whitening Test
Following the directions, Loretta used the Bondi Smiles whitening kit for 5 consecutive days and worked towards the 40-minute timeframe.
Loretta using the Bondi Smile whitening kit at home
Loretta our tester does have sensitive teeth so we were mindful of that and she mostly stayed around the 20-minute timeframe.
She kept a short diary of her experience and thoughts along the way. This is what happened…
Usage Timeline
Initial Usage
Condition: Excellent
At first, it was a bit tricky getting the tray into my mouth, found it quite wide, but once it was in, it sat properly.
There was no feeling or sensation or anything like that. So that was good.
I just turned the LED light on and off we went. I loved that I didn't have to put an alarm on my phone or anything.
When the light went off, it was time to rinse it out, so I had the option if I wanted to do it again. It was my first time, I'll just try the one time because I'm a bit worried about my sensitivity.
Day 2
Condition: Great
The gel syringe got a little stuck and I applied too much whitening gel. Just had to wipe some off before I put the tray in.
No sensitivity was noticed at all. I decided to keep to the 10min timeframe.
I really like the time function on the LED light
Day 3
Condition: Great
Getting into the swing of things, applying the gel is easy as and I'm using 0.5mls each time.
I'm used to the mouth tray as well, it feels comfortable now.
Decided to try 20 mins this time and I didn't get any sensitivity at all.
Day 4
Condition: Great
Tried using it for 20mins this time. No issues to report.
Finding it really easy to use.
I've taken the LED light and syringes out on the kit box and just keep them in the bathroom cabinet.
My teeth are looking good, I think they are getting whiter.
Day 5
Condition: Great
Much easier to apply and use after 5 days. Practice makes perfect!
I found using the kit at night worked best for me, however, I had to motivate myself and build up momentum to keep using it consistently in the evening.
My teeth are subtly whiter but I only used the kit between 10-20 mins a day. So I would think if you used it for longer you would get whiter teeth.
Tip: just be careful with applying the gel into the mouth tray, it can come out fast, potentially wasting precious whitening gel in the process.

Overall
Bondi Smile is a name you can trust when whitening your teeth.
Simple instructions coupled with a versatile whitening application, Loretta thought it was a pleasure to use.
Super compact for a whitening kit, it could potentially go away with you on a business trip or holiday.
Teeth were whiter after the 5 days using the Bondi Smile whitening kit. It was a lighter natural shade of white which was subtly noticeable.
I would suggest if you are after a much whiter shade of white, be consistent with the application and watch what you drink and eat. It does have a role to play!
