If you have ever thought about a computer that takes care of trade execution for you, you’ve likely heard about algorithmic trading. These days, algo trading is increasingly popular among trading firms and retail investors, and it is getting more popular daily. Is algo trading profitable?

The answer is both yes and no. If you use the system correctly, implement the right backtesting, validation, and risk management methods, it can be profitable. However, many people don’t get this entirely right and end up losing money, leading some investors to claim that it does not work.

Algorithmic Trading uses pre-programmed instructionsto automatically executes trades in the financial markets. The trade can be customised based on time, volume and price, and once the programmed instruction is triggered, the system executes the trade. The investors can customise the program as per their investment goals.

Reasons why Algo Trading can be more profitable than other trading methods:

1.Everything is backtested: In algo trading, you don’t have to rely on guesses fortrade because it uses historical backtests to evaluate the performance of trading strategies’, which increases the chances of them being efficient in the present.

2.A computer executes every strategy: It is impossible for a human being to trade various trading styles simultaneously, but Algo trading does the job for the investor. For instance, a human may lack focus while trading different styles at a given time, but the algorithm has the potential to manage everything systematically without any errors.

3.No emotional factor: Human beings often lose money in trading because of the emotional aspect, but in algo trading, the execution is done by the system and no psychological or emotional involvement. .

4.The investor can diversify across different strategies and markets: the system takes care of the orders on your behalf, and it is possible to expand your investment into other markets, timeframes and strategies, which allows better risk management and better gains. For example, with the help of algo trading, you can trade gold, crude oil, market indices or shares of different companies simultaneously.

5.A human being sleeps, a computer does not: Algo trading is possible as long as the markets are open, providing a great advantage for the investor. For instance, an investor can trade in gold 24*7 because multiple sessions are available worldwide at different time frames.

Algo trading is not only profitable, but it also increases your odds of becoming a profitable trader., Algo trading is ideal for someone who wants to trade with their full-time job. While they can develop trading strategies in their extra time and which are executed by the system when they are at their job.
